Overview

Monroe Freeling is a junior offensive tackle from Georgia. After starting four games during his sophomore season, Freeling became a full-time starter at left tackle in his junior year. Standing 6’7” and weighing 315 pounds, Freeling possesses prototypical size, but it is his fluid movement that truly separates him. His speed in the open field is eye-opening—there are sequences, such as his performance against Ole Miss, where his ability to sprint to the second level defies logic for a player of his stature.

Because of this elite athleticism, Freeling excels in combination blocks. He is smooth when helping on an initial defender before transitioning to find a second-level target. While he occasionally looks lost in space, his natural feel for the game suggests that with better diagnostic understanding, he could become a massive asset when operating in open space.

However, Freeling’s game requires significant refinement. Both in the run and pass game, he struggles with hand placement. When his hands are positioned correctly, he is a formidable blocker who holds his ground well; when he misses his punch, he often loses his balance and can be driven back. He frequently tries to win early with a punch at the snap; when he misses, he is forced to play catch-up, which occasionally leads to holding penalties.

Despite these technical hurdles, Freeling has all the traits NFL teams covet: excellent size, rare athleticism, and a high football IQ. Because he has only 18 career starts, he remains a somewhat raw prospect. His draft stock will likely depend on how much patience a coaching staff is willing to exercise; he could realistically be selected anywhere from the top 15 to the second day of the draft. If a team can coach him up and help him refine his technique, Freeling has the ceiling to become the best offensive tackle in this class. There are simply very few players who possess his unique blend of physical tools.
